Reef Magic is a small family owned and run coral propagation farm, supporting environment practices working to help reduce the need for harvesting of our diminishing natural reefs. The more ‘reef farmers’ open for business, the less the demand on our amazing, natural…magical wonders of the sea reefs. I first got into saltwater with a small 29 gallon fish only tank; I loved it! After about 2 months I needed some supplies and I went into a small unique aquatic store. The first thing I saw was an incredible 55 gallon reef tank with amazing old corals and the most beautiful fish I had ever seen…a mandarin. Wow! I was hooked. The corals were out of this world and the beauty and grace of the mandarin still takes my breath away; however, I need to back up and explain more of why Reef Magic is…
My first passion is the art of life. I have a B.A. in Art, having studied painting, but my sister has always had an innate understanding and eye for art; she inspires me. Christi began as a young child creating works of art effortlessly. The unique pottery in figures 1 and 2 are one of her early art forms. If you look closely at the figure 2 and then back to figure 1 you will notice how closely she pays attention to detail in the most minuet ways. Look at electrical outlet for size.

My favorite subjects have always been nature and the beauty of light and color. The painting shown below is representative of my style while studying.
Next, I had a child and went into education. I found a love of working with children helping them see how amazing life is. During that time I developed my second passion, science, and earned a master’s degree in science education. Art and science, that is what a well designed reef tank is: the natural grace of life’s art and the amazing chemistry of earth’s magnificent oceans. With these two passions in my life, the underwater artistry and chemistry of reef keeping was destiny.
Since my 29 gallon, I have added many more tanks and began propagating for my local fish stores (LFS). My sister and I have also began developing hand made rock sculptures that serve two purposes; first, it helps reduce the need to take live rock from our limited natural reefs, and second, it is a work of art. Our natural landscapes and reefscapes have a rhythm, movement, and flow. Nature is a work of art that we can only begin to emulate as artists. Our goal is to bring science and art together in our propagation and rock sculptures in terms of life science and natural art. We will be working on these sculptures during the summer. You can purchase one of these sculptures fall of 2007 from our distributors.
