PERSONALITY

Thinking ahead about future careers is something that everyone should do once they enter junior high school.  It is not only smart, it also matures them and lets them know specifically what subject they need to work harder on in order to do well in their career.  If many junior high students were to do this, than the high school drop out rate could possibly decrease in the future.

The test “Pathways to the World of Careers” made me think of what I should do with my life.  I am in eighth grade now, and in less than a year I will be attending Sanger High School; therefor, I should start thinking about what I am going to do with my life, and set my goals in order to achieve them.  In “Pathways to the World of Careers” the three best careers for me were industrial and technology, health careers, and arts, media and entertainment.  I got all fives on these three careers.  Out of those three careers, I can see myself doing arts, media, and entertainment.

One of the most important questions I answered for arts, media, and entertainment was I work well alone where I have room to reflect on my thoughts.  This is a very important need for many actors and actresses, because they must have time alone in order to feel the character that they are playing.   I scored high, achieving fives, on the careers that I chose; however, arts, media, and entertainment seem to fit me best.  The reason I would chose this career is because I’ve already experienced some parts of acting.  A couple years back I had somewhat of an acting career for two and a half years when I lived in Bakersfield.  I even had my own speaking part in a Coca-Cola commercial.  I later was the lead character for three plays.  I hope to dig into the entertainment industry a little more when I am older; but for right now, I want to concentrate more towards school.

The “Similarminds” test is a great way to understand my traits and favored careers.  The traits that suit me are:

“Organized… outdoing, social… values relationships and families over intellectual pursuits, group oriented… affectionate, regular, orderly, clean, finisher… dutiful, complimentary, loving, considerate…”

Out of all the favored career choices “Similarminds” gave me, I would like to become a pediatrician, public health employee, or medical employee; although, filmmaking and film directing were in my disfavored careers, I wouldn’t mind becoming those either.  I strongly believe that these traits and favored careers fit me well.

A third test,  “Keirsey” I scored as a protector under guardian.  Guardians have strong work ethics, like to work with others, and don’t want to be in position of authority.  I scored having a good work ethic; therefor, I am a good worker.  Before I play, I always get my work done first.  Although I don’t prefer to work long, long hours, if it is something that must be done, I don’t mind doing it.  I do my best to make my work as thorough as possible.  Many people like to work in a group; instead, I prefer working alone.  I am not very comfortable when I am placed in position of authority.

Doing this project made me a better person.  It not only made me more mature, it also made me finally wake up and ask myself what am I going to do with my life.  It is very important for me to always be thinking about my future because I may not be able to have my first career choice.  Some people think that they should wait until college to decide on a career; however, that is not true, junior high and high school gives someone the direction for setting appropriate goals; therefor, I’m glad to say that I’m setting mine.
