Finding a Career - By Sukhpreet D.
Careers are important in life. If no one had careers, we wouldn’t have money. If you do have a career, you could make money which you need to live. Why choosing the right career is important because you need a career that you like. If you have a career that you like, you can enjoy your working at it and at the same time you could be making money. After you figure out why careers are important, you need to know what careers are right for you. In order to do that, you need to understand yourself to choose a right career for you. If you know what you like to do the most, it would become easier to choose your career.
Supervisors make up 10% of the population and go by experiences, not by fantasy, experimentation, and speculation. They make sure everyone is doing the right thing whether it's their spouse, offspring, subordinate, or an employee. People can fool around or daydream if they want as long as it’s on their own time. If they do fool around during work, the top sergeant isn’t going to be happy.
Supervisor guardians are serious about their work. They don’t hesitate of approval or withhold direction and suggestions. They are key players in their community. They take leadership roles and are generous with their time and energy. Supervisors worry greatly about society falling apart and traditions being lost. They have a hard time understanding people who could radically change them.
Why I think I’m a supervisor is because I like to work and be on task. I’m serious about my work whether it’s a test, class work, or even homework. I don’t like to get behind if we’re doing a class project especially if we’re not listening and fooling around. I always try to take my time and try to finish as fast as I can. I feel good whenever I finish doing something. All the tension and pressure is off me.
To find out what careers I, as well as the whole class, wanted, our teacher Mrs. Murray gave us a test. It was called Pathways to the World of Careers. It asked us 64 questions on things we like to do. If we agreed with a question, we would bubble in the square. If we didn’t, we would leave it blank. At the end of the test it asked us to find the total numbers of each letters. For each question, there was a box next to a letter. There are 8 letters: a,b,c,d,e,f,g, and h. After I was done counting, my top one was public and human service. That is someone who wants to become a teacher, principle, or even a councilor. That would be like taking risk for other people just for their safety. I would personally do that. Something else would be like “I feel my highest honor would be to serve my country.” To me, that would be a true honor.
My second choice is Health Careers. Those kinds of people are nurses, doctors, and pharmacies. By helping others feel better is showing you care. You can feel successful by taking peoples pain away. I would do both of those things for other people. “I usually put personal feelings aside when dealing with a crisis.” To me, that is a big step in order to become a doctor. Doctors help try to keep a family calm if someone they know is hurt. That is why I could consider being a doctor.
My third and final choice would be to go into business. Those kinds of people are managers or CEO’s of large companies and sales. If you like people buying items from you and you feel comfortable selling them to people, you could be a businessman. I personally like to do that and also like to keep records of how I spend my money if you like, “Business settings that require professional dress,” you could be cut out to be a businessman. I wouldn’t mind wearing business uniforms if I really had to.
To find out what type of personality you have, you should take the Similarminds test. That’s what my class and I did. There were 53 questions about our personality. After we finished the test, we got these 4 letters. Mine were ESTJ. Then we took those letters and went back to Keirsey and they told me I was a supervisor guardian. Then if you go back to Similarminds and click on better description, they tell you your personalities and this is what they said about me I was:
“Organized, group oriented, focus, leader, emotionally stable, attention seeking, planner, realistic, fearless, responsible, finisher, decisive, norm following, punctual, hard working, self confident, follows the rules, clean outgoing, social, content, does not like being alone, normal, regular… aggressive, assertive, happy, proper, and formal.”{www.Keirsey.com}
Some traits that relate to me include punctual, organized, hard working, and responsible. Like for example, I’m always punctual, because I'm always on time to class, a party, or anywhere I go. I’m very organized and know where everything is. If I need a pencil I can grab it out of my backpack with my eyes closed. I’m always hard working. I give a 110% on everything I do. Also, I’m very responsible. I can put something in a shelf and a month later I would still know where it is. Those are examples on how I have all these good traits.
So now you know why careers are important. You should make sure you have a career that you like and you don’t have a career just for the money. If you have job for the money, you might like it for a while, but then you’ll realize the jobs not you. That is why it’s important to choose a job that matches your personality. Just remember, get a career that you like and can enjoy for the rest of your life.
