PDF Career Project

Overview

Today's world can be very exciting or frightening, depending on how prepared students are to face the challenges and choices confronting young people in our information age.  The more a student understands who they are and what strengths they have, as well as the weaknesses they need to work on, the more confident and prepared they will be to become independent, successful, and productive citizens.  When students take a look at themselves without judgment, and evaluate specific skills they already possess which they can build upon, they become empowered to work towards goals and dreams suited for those strengths and limits.

The Career Project has been developed using a constructivist approach to help facilitate students in a personal journey of self-discovery in chapter 1, explore suitable careers in chapter two, and choose an appropriate educational pathway in chapter 3 .  Using research based personality tests available online, software, and lessons created for this year long endeavor, students will critically assess whom they are developing into as young adults.  During this unfolding process, the students will engage in specific lessons, take standards based tests, and obtain their language arts requirements with specially designed writing assignments and presentations that are constructed to meet our highest state and national standards in language arts.  As each lesson is introduced, the specific standard that this lesson or assignment meets is specified.
